Twitter Ban in Indonesia Lifted After Company Agrees to Comply with Regulations

Indonesia Lifts Ban on Twitter After Government Meets with Company

Twitter was banned in Indonesia for a brief period in July 2023. The ban was lifted a few days later after the company met with Indonesian government officials and agreed to comply with the country's regulations on online content.

The ban was imposed because the domain name "X.com" had previously been used by websites that violated Indonesia's strict laws against "negative" content, such as pornography and gambling. Twitter was using the domain name "X.com" as a temporary placeholder while it transitioned to a new domain name, but the Indonesian government took issue with this.

After meeting with government officials, Twitter agreed to change its domain name to "twitter.com" in Indonesia. The company also agreed to create a dedicated team to monitor content on the platform and to remove any content that violates Indonesian law.

The ban on Twitter in Indonesia was a reminder of the government's strict controls on online content. However, the lifting of the ban also showed that the government is willing to work with companies to find a way to allow them to operate in the country.
